Jul 30th 2016!⃝This song is essentially about a one night stand or a "first encounter". Without the coffee metaphores, this song could have been named "The Morning After". This song is like a color blind test, you either connect with it or fail to see the intense meaning of its purpose. If you "get it" and can relate to it, it is clearly the best written and played song ever! (And I'm a dude!)
The references to cold coffee are relatable to how she makes him feel when he is in her presence. She makes him feel alive (I love the way she wakes me up). Her presence brings spontaneous feelings of excitement throughout his body (makes me shiver without warning). These are feelings you get when you meet someone special and are befinning to fall for that person. Likewise, he enjoys her company and she makes him feel special and inclusive (she makes me laugh like I'm in on the joke).
The premise of the song is that he has awaken and is overwhelmed with emotion for this girl and the encounter that ensued (still drunk off last night's whiskey and coke).
He wants the feeling of lying in bed with her to last. Whatever he had planed for the day no longer is important (the day is up and calling ...please go back to sleep).
He also has a lot of questions because he does not know this girl - perhaps she is married (for goodness sake may my love not be enough). He wants a future with this girl (stay with me forever). As he lies in bed, he wishes for more time and is asking for another night together. (Stay with me for now) and (do you need a loving hand to help you fall alsleep tonight). This also begs the question, is there someone else in her life ? Is there a future? Who is this person I have fallen for? These are all questions he has as he awakes.
In summary, he had a one night stand and he fell hard for this chick!
It's a role reversal. This song kicks ass!
